If it's true what they say abou the third time being the charm, then the newly released Mighty Ducks 3 is sure to be adored as much as, if not more than, the first two flicks involving those hockey playing hotties. Listen in as Mike Vitar shares behind-the-scene secrets with BOP.Then get a quack fix, er, we mean a quick fix, of some of your favorite Ducks.
BOP: How is your character, Luis, different in this movie than he was in 1994's D2: The Mighty Ducks? MIKE VITAR: Well in this one he is a little older. A little more romantic, I guess. He is still the speedster that he was in Ducks 2. BOP: When you say he's more romantic, does that mean there's a love interest for Luis? MIKE : There are many! (laughs) BOP: So, you probably had a kissing scene, right? MIKE: Yeah, I had my first on screen kiss. BOP: What was that like? MIKE: I don't know...I thought it was going to be weird but it wasn't really that weird when it came down to it. (By the way the lucky girl who gets to share that scene with Mike is Melissa Keller, who plays Mindy.) BOP: How many takes did you two have to do? MIKE: Well, is that counting the ones I messed up on purpose? BOP: Were you guys nervopus about filming that scene? MIKE: Not really. She was really easygoing, really cool. And we both were pretty good friends, so we had a good time. BOP: Did you know Melissa from before you made the movie? MIKE: We became friends as we worked together. She was real cool and we hung out together. She was real cool and we hung out together every now and then. BOP: This was your second Ducks movie. Was it easier for you this time around? MIKE: It definitely got easier because you're more comfortable with everybody. And you basically know what you're supposed to do. BOP: Did you have to take ice skating lessons again? MIKE: Yeah, we all [attended] another hockey camp for a little bit. I mean, I still played hockey while we weren't filming, so it wasn't anything new. After I learned how to play it, I loved it. So I kept on playing. BOP: So who's in this film that was also in D2? MIKE: Basically...everybody. Same people. BOP: That's good. So you were able to see everyone again. MIKE: Yeah, it was like a big reunion! BOP: Which movie would you say was more fun to make? MIKE: I'd have to say Ducks 3 was a lot more fun only because everybody was older and we got to do a lot more stuff and hang out more. And we all got along better. BOP: What kinds of things did you guys do when you were hanging out? MIKE: Everything from cruising around Minneapolis to Roller Blading through downtown to just doing whatever. We'd go to clubs or go dancing. It was a lot of fun. BOP: Are there any memorable moments from the shoot that stick out in your mind? MIKE: Yeah, we had one day of shooting in an ice rink and a bunch of tornadoes touched down. That was pretty crazy. We had to stop shooting and they were telling us that we had to go underground abd get away from the windows. Being from Los Angeles, I'd never seen a tornado. I didn't know what was going on. BOP: Did the tornado actually hit the rink? MIKE: It hit, but it didn't touch down where we were. And it wasn't that big of a tornado, so it didn't do much damage.
